Recent numbering changes

  • August 2, 2026 — NANPA assigned area code 543 as a non-geographic services code on July 16, 2026. It joins the 5XX block used for services not tied to any one region, and is not yet in service — no start date has been announced. 543
  • August 2, 2026 — Area code 822 is now located in NANP AREA. 822
  • August 2, 2026 — Area code 988 is now located in NANP AREA. 988
  • July 4, 2026 — Area code 956 (Laredo, TX) entered relief planning — an overlay is being planned for the area and no new area code has been assigned yet. 956 (Laredo, TX)
  • July 4, 2026 — NANPA normalized the metadata for the 5XX non-geographic services complex (500, 521–529, 532, 533, 535, 538, 542, 544, 558, 566, 577, 588, 589): the overlay-complex membership list was reordered and expanded, and blank location and country fields were backfilled. No dialing, assignment, or in-service changes. 500 (personal communications service)
