SMS short code lookup

Got a text from a 5- or 6-digit number and want to know who it is? Look up any SMS short code against our directory of codes verified against the owner's own documentation — with the owner, what the texts are for, how to opt out, and how to tell a real business text from a smishing scam.

An SMS short code is a 5- or 6-digit number a business or agency texts from — order alerts, login codes, fraud warnings, promotions. In the US they're administered by the CTIA, and each code is leased to one organization. Below are 79 codes we've verified against the owner's own published documentation; look one up, and if it isn't listed we say so plainly — an unknown code is unverified, not automatically a scam.

How the short-code lookup works

Enter a 5- or 6-digit code above. If it's in our verified directory you'll see who it belongs to, what its texts are for, the opt-out keyword, and a link to the owner's own page that documents it — the source citation is the difference between this and the guess-work directories. If a code isn't listed, we only tell you what we can stand behind: we don't have it verified against an owner's documentation. We never label an unknown code a scam, because a code we haven't catalogued can still be perfectly legitimate.

Report a scam text: forward it to 7726 (which spells SPAM) so your mobile carrier can investigate the sender, then report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Don't reply or tap any links. More on 7726.

How to verify any business text

Whatever the sender shows, these five habits keep you safe from smishing:

  1. Don't tap links in a text you weren't expecting — even if the sender looks right.
  2. Open the company's official app, or type its web address yourself, instead of following a link.
  3. Call the number on your card, statement, or the company's official website — never a number the text gives you.
  4. Never share a one-time code, password, or PIN. A real company will never text asking you to read one back.
  5. Report smishing: forward the message to 7726 (it spells SPAM) and file it at reportfraud.ftc.gov.

Frequently asked questions

What is an SMS short code?

A short code is a 5- or 6-digit number that businesses and agencies use to send text messages — order alerts, two-factor login codes, fraud warnings, and marketing. In the US they're administered by the CTIA through the Common Short Code registry, and one code is leased to one organization, so a legitimate code maps to a single owner.

How do I look up who owns a short code?

Enter the 5- or 6-digit code above. If it's in our verified directory, you'll see the owner, what the texts are for, the opt-out keyword, and a link to the owner's own documentation. If it isn't, we say so plainly rather than guess — an unknown code is unverified, not automatically a scam.

Is a text from a short code always safe?

No. A text that genuinely comes from a brand's documented short code is very likely that brand, but scammers impersonate brands from ordinary 10-digit numbers, and a real-looking sender is never a guarantee. Judge every message by what it asks for: never share a one-time code or password, and don't tap links you weren't expecting.

How do I report a scam or spam text?

Forward the message to 7726 (which spells SPAM) so your mobile carrier can investigate the sender, and report it at reportfraud.ftc.gov. Don't reply to the text or tap any links. If it impersonates a company you use, confirm through that company's official app or the number on your card.

Can a short code be faked?

Short-code sender IDs are harder to spoof than 10-digit caller ID, which is why most smishing arrives from ordinary phone numbers, iMessage/RCS, or foreign senders rather than the real code. Still, treat the content as what matters — a familiar-looking sender alone is never proof a message is safe.
