357 is the Fresno area's newest area code
357 is a new all-services overlay of 559 in California's San Joaquin Valley, covering Fresno, Visalia, Clovis, Madera and Tulare; it became available for assignment on March 26, 2025. The California Public Utilities Commission authorized it (NANPA Planning Letter PL-624) to relieve 559's number exhaustion. The rollout came with a dialing change: the 559 region moved to mandatory 10-digit dialing — dialing 1 plus the area code plus the number — ahead of 357's launch in early 2025. Existing 559 numbers are unchanged; only new lines may be issued a 357 number.
Because 357 is new and unfamiliar, some people are wary when it appears on caller ID and search for “who called me from 357?” An area code only shows where a number is registered, and any number can be spoofed — so a 357 call is not suspicious on its own. Judge each call by what it asks for, not the code. Is a call from 357 a scam?

Is a call from area code 357 a scam?

No. 357 is a US area code (a domestic 3-digit code), not a country code. The country (calling) code for the United States is +1, shared across the North American Numbering Plan. So a full 357 number written for international dialing looks like +1 357 followed by the 7-digit local number.
